The Mustang Hollow Natural Experience ...

...is a place for all ages to come and learn a bit about a natural horse keeping ranch and it’s
environment.  There is much talk about the newly defined ‘nature deficit disorder.’  We offer a unique
way of addressing this issue through horses and horsemanship.  Bring your group.

Experience life with a horse:   Come and learn about horses from the horses’ perspective.  Learn about
natural horsekeeping.  Become involved in what it takes to take care of horses.  Spend time walking with
and around a grazing herd of horses.  Sit with them and listen to the tearing of the grass as the herd
collectively, yet separately, takes small steps while searching for the best grasses, weeds and herbs to
satisfy their nutritional needs.  Learn about herbs and minerals and the way they benefit the horse.  Many
of these same herbs and minerals are necessary in the human diet, as well.

Learn about the horse hoof:  Why do wild horses survive without shoes?  Do domestic horses really
need shoes?  Learn what it takes to keep a horse barefoot.  See a horse get a hoof trim.

Experience the horse as a partner:  The horse is often defined as a beast of burden, they have borne our
burdens throughout much of history.  They have been our partners in hunting, war, travel, carrying our
precious goods, helping build homes and farms, caretaking ranches, helping to maintain our livelihoods
and in recreation.  Learn a little about why they have been such willing partners in helping us create the
civilization that we now have. Spend time handling and riding a horse and learn how sensitive they are
and how little it can take to communicate your desires as you work with them.

Learn about wildlife:  See the types of wildlife that call the short-grass prairie home and can easily live
side by side with a grazing herd of horses.  The variety of species you might be lucky enough to see
includes antelope, coyotes, prairie dogs, burrowing owls,  hawks, eagles, meadowlarks, lark buntings,
horned larks, rattlesnakes, bull snakes, horned lizards, jack rabbits, cotton tails and more.  Take a
walkabout in the prairie and spend time just watching.  Our nature rides give an opportunity to approach
wildlife from the back of a horse.  Quietly riding a horse could allow one to get very close to wildlife.

Spend time drawing or photographing nature:   Learn to see nature in detail and how to draw animals,
plants and scenic views.  Learn how to capture what you see with photography.

Experience a western style camp fire:  Enjoy a campfire meal and a sing along.  As the skies darken,
notice the stars and the nighttime sounds.  Learn some constellations.  Identify the wildlife you hear.
